In wake of audio released of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump condoning and joking about …
Jesse Williams made an impactful, spine-tinging speech after being honored at the BET Awards that touched upon systematic racism and the overall treatment of black lives in America. And although the speech was amazing and made sharp points, there’s always going to be someone sipping on their haterade somewhere.
A Change.org petition was circulating saying that Williams should be fired for his speech. It read, “Jesse Williams spewed a racist, hate speech against law enforcement and white people at the BET awards. If this was a white person making the same speech about an African American, they would have been fired and globally chastised, as they should be, but there has been no consequences to Williams’ actions. There’s been no companies making a stand against his racist remarks and no swift action condemning his negative attitude.”
Luckily, Shonda Rhimes stepped in and shut that nonsense down with one eloquent tweet: Um, people? Boo don’t need a petition. #shondalandrules.
Boom. Mic drop.
